Chennai, February 16, 2025: The SDAT Asia Triathlon Cup held at INS Adyar marked a significant milestone for triathlon in India, as the city hosted a high-calibre international field in a professionally executed event. Organised by the Tamil Nadu Triathlon Association under the aegis of the Indian Triathlon Federation, the competition received strong backing from the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT).
The event brought together athletes from over a dozen countries, including Australia, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, and Uzbekistan. The race followed the Olympic sprint format: 750m sea swim, 20km cycling, and 5km run.
World Triathlon's Director of Sports Results Enrique Quesada, Technical Delegate Lee Young Bok from Korea, and Melody Tan from Malaysia also led a Level 1 Technical Official course alongside the competition.
Competitive Performances Across Elite Categories
Men's Individual Triathlon
Among Indian finishers, Sarungbam Athouba Meitei led with 15th place (00:57:19), followed by Adarsh Muralidharan Nair Sinimol in 23rd (01:00:43) and Akash P (Tamil Nadu) in 24th (01:01:15).
The podium was claimed by Francesco Di Basilico (Italy) with gold in 00:55:45, Takuto Oshima (Japan) with silver in 00:55:54, and Luke McCarron (Ireland) and Ryoya Tamazaki (Japan) sharing bronze in 00:56:04.
Women's Individual Triathlon
Dolly Devidas Patil was the top Indian finisher in 10th place (01:08:42), followed by Mansi Mohite in 12th (01:10:00) and Aarthi S in 13th (01:15:09).
Martina Ayu Pratiwi (Indonesia) won gold in 01:04:25, Minori Ikeno (Japan) took silver in 01:04:50, and Anna Zehnder (Switzerland) claimed bronze in 01:04:53.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony attended by Thiru. Atulya Misra, IAS, Secretary to Government, Youth Welfare & Sports Development Department, and Thiru. J. Meghanatha Reddy, IAS, Member Secretary, SDAT, who felicitated the medal winners.
